I don't have any amusing stories, other than the fact I am 8 and a bit months pregnant and very much hoping my baby doesn't put in an early appearance...trying to get to East Surrey hospital would certainly be an interesting trip and I wasn't planning on a homebirth either. I think we have a doctor and a paramedic on the estate somewhere, I'm just hoping I don't need to call on their services!

Following my thanks to the tractor man(!) I was able to get out and drive to Sanderstaed today in my non 4x4 - having returned, I failed for over an hour to get my car the last 20 metres back into the garage.
Thurs 2nd – We decided to venture out into the “artic” conditions that had beset Great Park to treat ourselves to a warming lunch at The Harrow. We donned our thermals and ski outfits (less the skis may I add!) and made our way from the eastern end of Great Park and around by the cemetery and up the lane to the middle of Harrow Road. The scenery around the park is simply stunning, however, the depth of the snow meant that at time we were upto our knees, which made the walk somewhat trickier that first thought. Once onto The Harrow Road, we had to dive into the very deep snow to avoid the intrepid 4x4 drivers who all seem to think that they can drive at speeds no matter what the conditions on the ground. Safely made it to The Harrow, has a very nice relaxed lunch in front of the burning log fire, before setting out again for the trip home.

Went for a walk with Dave this afternoon – down to Sainsbury then back to the Harrow for some lunch.
As we walked up the Harrow Road we noticed that the compacted snow was extremely icy.
Dave gave me some timely advice - if you want to stay upright, take small steps and keep your body weight over your feet. With that I turned around and he was nowhere to be seen –- flat on his back on the deck, and practicing his vocabulary. I stifled a smile!

I was due to flight from Gatwick last Thursday 2 Dec, and as you all know it was impossible to get out of here, also Gatwick had been closed for two days. My family and I had planned a holiday in Barcelona for some time and everything was booked, flights, a big flat to accommodate us all, Cirque de Soleil on Thursday, guitar concert on Saturday, etc. We were all looking forward to it and I was determined to find a way out. Nikki Cooper suggested to call you and ask for an appeal to go out to all residents with a four wheel vehicle for a ride to either East Croydon or Warlingham station, if there were any trains.
Within one hour of receiving the email, Meryl rang to wish me good luck, someone else gave the number of a taxi man with a four wheel drive, I called immediately but got no reply, so I left two messages. While I was on the phone Sue Brandon left a message saying her husband had a four wheel drive and he could take me either to East Croydon or Gatwick, as I needed. Imagine my relief and gratitude to this lovely people.
I arranged to call them next morning at 8 to see whether Gatwick was opened and I could fly from there. The next morning I was woken up at 5 am by a mobile message from Easy Jet informing me that the flight from Gatwick was cancelled as Gatwick would remain closed and to make alternative arrangements. I went to the computer and managed to change my flight to Luton, leaving one hour earlier than originally planned. So, at 7 and hoping it wasn't too early, I called Sue and Clive to inform of the change of airport and they immediately said "when do you want to leave?" I said in 20 minutes and I met Clive at the entrance to Parkside Mews, as I came out nearly drowning in the snow, with my highest wellies and holding my suitcase high.
The drive to East Croydon was a bit slow but uneventful and I managed to catch about the only train leaving in the morning and continue from there, slowly but surely, to catch my flight at Luton.
So, Thank You Clive and Sue for being instrumental in carrying out our plans. You were wonderful, so helpful and nice, it made it all possible and showed the community spirit at its best.

The external decorations were finally signed off, but unfortunately no resolution as yet, to the leaking roof in Willow House.
Andertons are currently in touch with the NHBC and the builders to see if anything can be done to find the source of the leaks and importantly to fix them. All blocks have a new safety nosing at the step in the basement so no-one falls over it and we now look forward to signs in this area, to highlight the way out in an emergency.
Andertons are looking into an easier type of shutter opening in case of a power cut, rather than the present system of having to climb a stepladder to put the chain round the wheel.
Some residents are being contacted individually to ask for their co-operation in making sure none of their possessions stored in the basement are causing a fire hazard. The reference to cycle storage recently made by Andertons referred to the upper floors and not the basement. Providing they are up against the wall it is perfectly o.k. to keep cycles in the basement.
How welcoming it was to see our gardener Paul in the very early hours, clearing snow from paths and then to see the arrival of our local farmer with the snow plough. Paul’s vehicle must be better equipped than most to drive in the snow and their combined efforts really did help so many people get out and go about the business of going to work or shopping.
Please remember to check on your neighbours in this spell of bad weather, bringing in a pint of milk, a loaf and a paper might make a big difference to those who are not able to venture out.

At last some sunshine and the daffodils are in bloom. Over the past year, the weather has dominated the grounds maintenance, with drought, heat and ice and snow hampering efforts to complete projects and maintain the parkland. Those areas awaiting attention, specifically in Tower Place, will be completed as soon as conditions permit.
I would like to remind residents of Tower Place that Helen Robinson (no 28) is their representative on the Grounds Maintenance committee and Natalie Fairchild (no 3) coordinates gardening in Parkside Mews. Please speak to them if you notice something amiss or have concerns regarding grounds maintenance.
We have introduced some changes for 2011. Paul will now devote specific days (usually Wednesdays and Thursdays) to gardening in each of the areas where there are a large number of beds and boarders.
The first three Wednesdays of each month will be spent in Tower Place and adjoining paths.
The first three Thursdays will be spent in the Willow House area, Sycamore House and Aspen House, in rotation. Time spent tending to the flats will include maintenance of East Parkside as well.
The fourth Wednesday of each month will be spent tending to the Estate entrance, the beds surrounding the tennis courts, tennis court maintenance, and Lodge Walk.
The fourth Thursday will be devoted to Parkside Mews and the pavilion entrance.
In addition the West Parkside and secondary road area will receive attention on the first Monday of each month.
Obviously, some of the above is weather dependent.
Paul will usually be on site from 8am to 4pm each day and whereas we respect that walkers in the area like to chat to Paul, please remember that he has a lot of work to do in order to maintain the Estate as expected by residents.

£42 for 6 sessions or £8.50 pay-as-you-go
Through regular practice of yoga the body feels healthier and more energetic. It becomes less prone to diseases and effects of day-to-day stress.
While some of these benefits can be expressed in words, others are beyond description and can only be experienced. Come and experience them for yourself!
I teach yoga to children and adults of all ages and physical abilities. My students include corporate clients, schools, hospitals, people with special needs, care home residents and, of course, private individuals.
